Driving Under the Influence Treatment Counselor Credential (DUITCC)
This experiential-based DUI Treatment Counselor Credential (DUITCC) supports the certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor to highlight their education, knowledge, and experience in driving under the influence offender treatment.
The AGMC Online Training Program SUD Counselor Series offers 8-hours of DUI specific training to meet the educational requirements of this specialty credential.
THE CALIFORNIA DUI PROGRAM SYSTEM
DUI programs are licensed by the Department of Health Care Services to provide a less intensive level of outpatient alcohol and other drug treatment services focused on improving public health and safety by reducing and/or eliminating additional DUI offenses.
These services consist of education classes (prevention); individual and group counseling sessions (intervention); and in some county’s individual client involvement in additional county requirements to facilitate ongoing recovery from the abuse of alcohol and/or drugs.
Consistent with state regulations, DUI treatment is provided by alcohol and other drug counselors certified under Chapter 8, Division 4, Title 9, California Code of Regulations.
ONLINE TRAINING
Title 9 California Code of Regulation for Programs for Alcohol and Drug Impaired Drivers
This course provides the following topics for the CADTP DUI Treatment Counselor Credential Educational Topics.
1.0 hour of History and efficacy of DUI Program treatment.
7.0 hours of Title 9 California Code of Regulations for Impaired Driving Programs Sections:

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE TREATMENT COUNSELOR CREDENTIAL (DUITCC)
Requirements
- Current Substance Use Disorder (SUD) professional license or certification from a State-approved or recognized, or nationally recognized, licensing or certification agency.
- 3-years of general SUD counselor experience.
- 1-year experience designated as a driving under the influence offender treatment counselor (experience providing SUD primary treatment and case management services or primary services to those in a California Licensed DUI program will be acknowledged or counted toward the experience criteria).
- Completion of 15 hours of driving under the influence offender treatment specific education. Driving under the influence offender treatment education must include, at a minimum, the educational topics listed in the next section.
Renewal
Credential renewal is required every 2 years and requires the following:
- Copy of current Substance Use Disorder (SUD) professional license or certification from a State-approved or recognized, or nationally recognized, licensing or certification agency.
- 4 hours of continuing education related to driving under the influence offender treatment and counseling.
- Renewal application and payment of renewal fee.

- DUITCC continuing education hours may also be utilized within the 40 hours required for the bi-annual renewal of your SUDCC Certification.
