Monitoring performance is one of the most important responsibilities a SUD clinical supervisor carries. It goes far beyond correcting mistakes or checking off tasks. Effective performance monitoring ensures that counselors grow in their skills, stay aligned with ethical and evidence-based practices, and provide safe, high-quality care to the individuals and families they serve.
This course is designed to help supervisors develop a clear, supportive, and data-informed approach to monitoring counselor performance. You will learn how to identify early concerns, reinforce strengths, use data to guide development, give meaningful feedback, and respond appropriately when issues persist. Each section is grounded in real-world scenarios, supervisory competencies, and practical tools you can use immediately in your daily work.
Whether you are a new supervisor or strengthening your existing skills, this course will help you build confidence, clarity, and consistency in your supervisory role. By the end, you will have a deeper understanding of how to support counselor growth while upholding the standards and values of effective SUD treatment.

Course Time
This course will take you approximately 4.5 hours to complete.
Navigation
The navigation panel is on the left of the screen. Click to move between lessons. Press the carat to expand topics and quizzes.
To complete a topic or lesson, press the Mark Complete button at the botton of the page.
Your progress is recorded in the Navigation panel and the next lesson will appear on the screen. You must press the Mark Complete button to complete a lesson or topic.
Quizzes and Assessments
Some lessons will have topic quizzes or self-assessments which you must complete to pass the course. You can take these multiple times as needed.
Helpful Tools
AUDIO: Press and pause the audio player to hear the lesson.
PROGRESS BAR: Displays your progresss as a percentage.
MATERIALS: The materials section holds publications referenced through out the course. The documents are downloadable for your future reference. The Materials tab is located next to the Course tab, under the progress bar.
Certificate of Completion
At the end of your training, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. Select Download Certificate at the top of the Progress Bar. Completed Certificates are also available indefinitely in your Account for viewing, printing, and saving.
