Clinical supervision is more than oversight. It is an intentional process designed to strengthen counselor competence, protect client welfare, and support professional growth. The methods and techniques supervisors choose shape how counselors learn, think, and practice over time. Used well, these approaches build confidence, skill, and sound clinical judgment. Used without intention, they can lead to confusion, dependency, or missed learning opportunities.
This course focuses on the practical tools supervisors use to support counselor development. It explores how supervision methods function in real settings and how they can be applied thoughtfully to promote learning rather than simply manage cases or monitor performance. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on clarity of purpose, ethical use of authority, and maintaining a strong focus on skill development.
Designed for aspiring and practicing SUD supervisors, this course integrates guidance from established public domain resources with practical, real world application. Participants will examine how different supervisory methods work, how they can be combined effectively, and how to use them in ways that are ethical, supportive, and developmentally appropriate.
